The Calling is a joint venture between Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits CEO Peter Deutsch and Sports Commentator Jim Nantz. Superstar winemakers Dan Goldfield, Wayne Donaldson and James MacPhail oversee all aspects of winemaking.
Handcrafted from the finest varieties in Sonoma’s top AVAs, The Calling is comprised of eleven different wines divided into two tiers.
Gold Tier:
Platinum Tier:
All of The Calling’s Chardonnays are 100% barrel fermented in French oak using wild yeasts; undergo full malolactic fermentation; and are aged sur lie for 11-12 months with frequent stirring of the fine lees, imparting additional flavor and complexity. The Gold Chardonnay is aged in 40% new oak, whereas the Platinum Chardonnays are aged in 60% new oak, primarily from the prestigious Damy cooperage.
The Calling’s red wines are also fermented with wild yeasts. After extended macerations, malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel. A combination of French, Eastern European, and American oak barrels are employed, both new and one year old. The Pinot Noir spends 10 months in French oak, 35-40% new; the Cabernet Sauvignon spends 20 months in 60% new oak; and the “Our Tribute” blend spends 22 months in 75% new oak.
The Calling is the first branded wine from The Deutsch Family.
